Juglans regia

Family: Juglandaceae

English name: Common walnut

French name: Noyer commun

Spanish name: Nogal comĂșn

Description

The walnut tree, originally grown for its nuts, was introduced by the Romans. Later on, it was prized for the decorative, wavy grain of its timber. The best wood is found at the base of the tree, so walnuts are often dug up for timber, rather than felled.
